One of the memories that still stands out for the Frenchie kids is the day spent at Legoland Windsor. It was a day for the kids so that they could finally relax and be themselves. That the kids still talk about Legoland as being the highlight of their holiday, confirms that it was a great idea.
I had foolishly booked all our travel plans from Paris to the UK and organised to catch up with extended family while we were there. All was planned and ticketed when I realised with shock-horror that the date that I had chosen to visit Legoland UK was shut...yup...even the best travel agent can make mistakes ...
working of our itinerary re-booking of hotels we eventually got it right! Please check the dates for Legoland UK before you organise the rest of your UK plans. There was no way I was going to let them down on the promise of visiting Legoland.
The kids Lego obsession is impressive, our house is littered with Lego kits and pieces scattered everywhere. Lego is always on the wish list for birthdays and Christmas. Lego is so ingrained into our lives that on a market day in Brittany the Frenchies hit the jackpot finding two boxes of mixed Lego kits - perfect toys for the road, however this resulted in us having to buy another suitcase for our return home.
The day at Legoland was a hit and it was great to see the kids really make the most of their day there. There is a lot to be said to sometimes slow the itinerary down and choose something that just the kids would like to do.
The theme park has plenty of activities to keep everyone occupied for hours. Legoland is divided into separate areas catering to all ages. Some are based on the actual Lego series such a Lego City.
'With over 55 interactive rides, live shows, building workshops, driving schools and attractions, all set in 150 acres of beautiful parkland, LEGOLAND Windsor Resort is a unique family theme park'
A word of caution to you parents... The Lego shops are located at the entrance of the theme park - you will be hard pressed to walk out without a little shopping spree. I especially loved all the figurines as we can't get them in Australia in mainstream toy stores.
We based ourselves in the gorgeous town of Windsor (rather than the Legoland Hotel) so that we could enjoy the town as well as the day excursion out to Legoland. Windsor is a beautiful town, with cobbled streets, shops and pubs and of course Windsor castle - great town to spend a few days at leisure.
Clarence Hotel - Windsor - clean, friendly hotel which is perfectly located to walk around the quaint town. It is also within an easy walk to Windsor Castle .
We choose to stay in Windsor for ease of transportation as well as to visit the town of Windsor.
For those wishing to keep up the Theme park feel for longer, why not spend time at Legoland Resort (we did not stay there, but looking back, I think the kids would have really enjoyed it even for just a night.)
Legoland Resort - You can get ticket and hotel packages for Legoland and the resort which includes in some cases the entry tickets to the Legoland Park.
There are trains from London to Windsor via Slough
You can access Legoland from Windsor by a shuttle bus that runs approximately every 30 minutes -
Legoland can also be reached by bus or self drive - see the following link for more information -
